VELOCETTE RACING RESULTS: 2016 SEASON
Tony Ainley represented the Velocette marque at the 2016 Manx Classic TT, in respect of which the Club is pleased to award Tony a donation of £400. Tony’s account of the event will appear in a future Fishtail.
A total of seven Club Members and one non-Member campaigned Velocettes in the VMCC British Historic Racing (BHR) 2016 series. The Club Members comprised Tony Ainley, Dave Burrell, Sam Rhodes, Keith Riley, Grant Sellars, Mark Stoker and Rob Walker, all of whom qualified for the award of the short-circuit race start donation from the Club of £40 for each of their total of 42 starts.
The Dave Allcock Trophy is awarded on a points basis, determined by the points gained during the BHR season by Velocette-mounted participants, irrespective of Club membership status. The 2016 winner by a substantial margin is, yet again, Keith Riley, a Club member, whose consistent performance on his very quick and ultra-reliable MkII KSS always impresses.
The Arthur Lavington Trophy and the Renee Rhodes Trophy (the latter for 350cc machines) are awarded on the basis of the number of highest places achieved during the BHR season by Velocette-mounted participants, again irrespective of Club membership status. The 2016 winner of the Arthur Lavington Trophy is, once again, Rob Walker, another Club member, aboard his very quick Venom special and the Renee Rhodes Trophy was retained by Keith Riley, whose eleven KSS finishes included six podium places.
The Harold Willis Trophy – for the most successful rider of a girder-forked machine who is not the winner of another Club trophy, again irrespective of Club membership status – for the 2016 season goes to Sam Rhodes, This year, Sam rode Ivan’s very quick MkI KTT, which attendees at the Experts’ Forum will remember was originally obtained by Ivan in exchange for a probably less lively BSA C11G.
All awards will be presented at the AGM on Sunday 26 March 2017 at the Alcester War Memorial Town Hall.
The Club is proud of the courage, skill and sportsmanship of our racing fellow-Members and we are grateful to them for the excellent exposure which they provide for the Velocette marque and for the Club.
