John Shipman

live near Biggleswade in Bedfordshire, UK. After a long time I have realised a teenage dream - owning a Venom. Don't ask why it took me until I was 53! Anyway after looking at several very expensive and very nice ones I decided to purchase one that needed a little TLC. The 1957 Venom with only one previous owner needed a good clean and required some replacement parts due to old age. The bike was idle for a year before I bought it and the previous owner used it to commute to work for about 10 years prior to that. The attached picture shows the bike after a good clean - but still some work needs to be done! I am hoping to keep it reasonably tidy and I think I would prefer to see it an "everyday" condition rather than concours. The machine goes well and starting is no problem now either hot or cold, once the knack was acquired (took less time than people tell you it does) and the points and plug were set correctly. I aim to keep the bike as near the original spec. as I can and I have rejected the idea of a 12volt conversion.

My 15 year old daughter, Lucy likes riding pillion and we hope to enjoy many miles on the Venom.
