Mike Robinson

This is my first Velo as an owner, but I used to spend a lot of time on the back of one with a friend who was also a design engineering apprentice. I used to work in Tyseley within a few miles of the Velo factory and remember deliberately going a little out of my on the way to college, to go up York Road in case I saw or heard a goodun.....!
The Velo was rebuilt pretty much as a Mk1 Clubman which is what I was told it was, (engine No VM 1045). I don't care if its not - I like it just the way it is.
The rebuild took 4 years plus several elapsed months to shake it down for road use. Initially I had problems with the clutch setting (who doesn't), gear change mechanism (old internal linkage now changed to rose joints) and not getting used to the TT carb, now replaced with a monobloc, at least for the time being.
The story of my first ride to the 1999 BMF rally in Peterborough was published in Fishtail 300. e-mail
